Cowherd and Weaver Girl

Long ago, in the heavens above, a weaver girl and a cowherd fell deeply in love. Their romance was so beautiful that the gods grew jealous, and they were banished to opposite sides of the sky—separated by the vast Milky Way. But once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, magpies form a bridge across the stars, and the lovers are reunited for a single, precious night. This is the story behind Qixi Festival, China’s most romantic celebration, often called Chinese Valentine’s Day.
